Wanxiang America
Based in Elgin, Illinois, outside of Chicago, Wanxiang America was started in 1994 as the U.S. outpost of Chinese auto parts giant Wanxiang Group. Pin Ni, President and founder of Wanxiang America, is a Northwestern University Trustee and member of ISEN’s Executive Council.
Projects
- In partnership with Wanxiang Group and Northwestern's Office of International Program Development (IPD), ISEN sponsors the Energy Technology and Policy Wanxiang Fellows Program. This competitive summer fellowship program allows students to study renewable energy in the United States and China while gaining exposure to Chinese language and culture. In addition to visiting Wanxiang America Corporation headquarters in Illinois, Wanxiang Fellows visit China to learn about and work on one of the world’s most important challenges: the development of sustainable green energy technologies. Fellows are immersed in academic and experiential learning related to solar cell manufacturing, electric vehicle battery development, and grid-scale energy storage among others.
