Schneider Electric
ISEN and Northwestern University's partnership with Schneider Electric aims to transform the way electricity is distributed on, and ultimately delivered from, the grid. Schneider Electric was a founding member of ISEN's Executive Council, and has been a long-time mentor on the Advisory Board for NUVention: Energy, a course offered jointly by ISEN and Northwestern's Farley Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
Projects
- Northwestern researchers, Schneider Electric, OPAL-RT Technologies, and CPS Energy are leveraging a $3.2 million grant to develop a new frequency-based load control architecture for electric power grids. The project, funded through the ARPA-E Network Optimized Distributed Energy Systems (NODES) Program, aims to simultaneously ensure system stability at the transmission network level, control frequency at the local distribution network level, and maintain the quality-of-service for individual customers at the building level, all under a single framework. The proposed multilayer control system will adapt to accommodate rapid changes in generation and demand loads, with an ultimate goal of enabling substantially higher levels of renewable energy integration on the grid.
